Hey!! Welcome to My Digital Porfolio Page.

Read All You Want Please, Maybe You'll Find Something You'll Like =)

My name is Katherine Chavez. I’m 16 years old. I was born on April 26th. In a few days I will no longer be a Sophmore. My interests include everything from reading to sports like tennis, badminton and running track to math, science and all kinds of visual arts. I’m not so sure what I’d like to major in because I’m interested in so many different things it’s kind of hard to decide exactly what I want to do. I do know though that I am going to attend a 4-year college. I am an open learner.  I learn best when I am doing what I’m learning. I have traveled to Nicaragua which is my home country. This summer I’m headed to Mali with Building with books to go build a school in a small village in Bamako. Hopefully in Nov/Dec. I’ll be chosen to go to Israel. To say the truth I’m not entirely sure what the purpose is but I’m sure it’s educational and it will serve me of some great experience or else my counselor wouldn’t have offered me the application. I’m very interested in global buissnes, I wish to help people and what better way to help if it dosent have a global effect, but I have no idea how to get involved so I hope that these trips open doors for me!!!

I am the kind of person that likes to strive for the best but most of the time I don’t work to the best of my ability because I usually think that I do give enough. About 70% percent of the time I procrastinate, that’s one of the reasons for why I don’t give things my 100%. This digital portfolio, a collection of  the most creative work that one has done in the past for example a photographer’s or artist’s portfolio in this case the portfolio is online, shows our skills in writing, having creativity, imagination and the ability to work with programs like Movie Maker, Adobe Premier, and Audacity. Continuing to work on this folder would be a great idea because apart from being able to reflect and see how we can improve certain areas of writing this can be of some use in the future. The portfolio would help teachers see our level of writing and they would also be able to tell us how we can improve and perfect it. Some skills that I should build on would be; when writing I should be more aware of any grammar errors as well as spelling error because as I’ve seen in the past with every returned essay that I get there are a lot of corrections that have to be made

In this portfolio you will see four different pieces of work; short story, a digital movie, an essay, and a poem.

The short story is the Day of the Dead assignment called "Never Just Watch". Since I have never experienced a loss I made up a story of girl that had a terrible life in school as well as at home and in the end she decides to end her life. This story came out of thin air and is not based on anybody's life.

The Digital Movie is a collection of pictures and drawings that go along with a narration. This was based on changes and for me it was the change that occurred between me and my friend when we entered high school and ended up in different schools.

The essay is part of the International Interview Project, which goes over and quotes certain topics that were talked about during the interview like education, woman’s issues and religion.  My group interviewed Matsui Timoko a college student, here in America, from Japan.

The final piece that you will see in my porfolio, which is the extra piece that i decided to add, is a poem called "Natural Abyss". This was a piece that was made to go into the the book of poems made by students here at ISA called, "From the Heart of the Bay." Since it did not make it into the book I decided to show it here because it is something that I am proud of and would liked to have shared with others.

 Enjoy.
